Sheryl Crow beautifully sings "Mrs Major Tom" (by yours truly) on William Shatner's new concept album "Seeking Major Tom".
The track, which I released on my "Adieu Shinjuku Zulu" and "DXLR8" albums as K.I.A., (and featuring the amazing vocals of Larissa Gomes,) continues the story of Major Tom, now told from the point of view of the wife left behind.
I'd always referred to "Mrs Major Tom" as part IV of the epic ("Space Oddity", "Ashes to Ashes" and Pete Schilling's "Major Tom (Coming Home)" being parts I-III), but now there are parts V, VI, VII and XX and more -- Shatner's album includes various other (space-themed) songs in the narrative arc.
Some of those other songs are "Rocket Man" (Elton John), "Walking on the Moon" (The Police), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Planet Earth" (Duran Duran) and so on.
I'm predicting it here first: The Odyssey of Major Tom, coming soon to Broadway... Or... maybe Cirque de Soleil will do a version for Vegas... or an opera somewhere staged in Berlin.Anyway, the song is on iTunes here MRS MAJOR TOM and Amazon here Mrs Major Tom
